Ilya Bolotowsky (1907–1981) was a Russian-American abstract painter and leading figure in geometric abstraction. A founding member of the American Abstract Artists group, he was influenced by Piet Mondrian and the De Stijl movement, focusing on balancing geometric forms and pure colors. His work often explored the relationship between order and variation.

This untitled serigraph exemplifies Bolotowsky’s mastery of minimal, precise compositions. The interplay of red and blue within a central oval creates a dynamic yet balanced tension. The careful arrangement of verticals and horizontals reflects his lifelong pursuit of order and harmony through abstraction.
